Lt. Col. Edith Marie Wimberly grew up in Campti. She was in the U.S. Army Nurses Corp and was a prisoner of war of the Japanese following the fall of Corregidor in the Philippine Islands.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution has committed to support of the Military Women’s Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery.
As part of that effort, members of the Cane River Chapter, NSDAR, are documenting military women’s experiences and their history.
And they are anxious for people to know about one of those heroines who hails from Campti.
