Construction on new bridge scheduled to begin in 2 years

  • The City Council recognized Gloria Jean Armstrong Ibn Mohammed at the Council meeting Monday. Ibn Mohammed was a coach of the 1964 and 1965 Central High School Girls’ Basketball Teams that had success on the court and made it to the state finals both years.     While it wasn’t on the City Council agenda, Mayor Ronnie Williams Jr. gave an update on when the Church Street Bridge will be replaced.

    The design is 90% complete and currently, construction should begin in July or August of 2027.

    LaDOTD will build a temporary bridge and then remove the old bridge.
