Tommie Sue Scott Sklar passed away peacefully in Shreveport on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the age of 82 following a brief battle with cancer.

Sue, as she was known, was born in Natchitoches on July 18, 1941 to Thomas Emile and Beau Scott of Natchitoches. She was a 1959 graduate of St. Mary’s High School. She attended Business College in Shreveport and worked for the Natchitoches Parish Hospital and the State of Louisiana in the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service.

She met and married Louis Edward “Sonny” Sklar, Jr. on March 19, 1966. Sue taught Religion at St. Mary’s School for 17 years. Sue was a life-long member of The Minor Basilica Of The Immaculate Conception Parish and served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector as well as Nursing Home Masses for many years. She was a member and Past President of Alpha Chi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, a Sustaining Member of the Service League of Natchitoches and Past President of The P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter AU. Sue joined Sonny in his service to Farm Bureau and served many years on the Natchitoches Parish Farm Bureau Women’s Committee. With Sonny she was an active member of the Natchitoches Vocations Club.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Sonny Sklar; her parents Thomas Emile and Beau Scott; her brothers, Thomas Calvert Scott, Terry Laird Scott and James Austin Scott, all of Natchitoches.

She is survived by her children, Fr. Louis Edward Sklar III of Winnfield, Emee Elizabeth Governale and husband Nick of Shreveport, Joseph Paul Sklar and wife Krista of Natchitoches; her grandchildren, Theresea Anne Governale, Lily Anna Sklar, Joseph Paul Sklar Jr. and Jenna Claire Sklar.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 12, at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home, with visitation following until 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 13 at The Minor Basilica of The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Natchitoches. Burial will follow at Memory Lawn Cemetery in Natchitoches.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers include Ronald Dale “Peppy” Smith, James L. Pearson Jr., Dean Abraham, Steven Verzwyvelt Jr., Terry Sklar and Cliff Varnado. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Vienne, Dr. Kent Hare, Ray Ponthieux, Benny Peek, Ned Henry, John Scott, Michael Scott, David Mooney and Gary DeBlieux.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to St. Mary’s Catholic School or The Minor Basilica of The Immaculate Conception.
