The sixth-seeded Northwestern State tennis team started quickly in Saturday morning’s Southland Conferece Tournament semifinal match against McNeese. The Lady Demons were unable, however, to maintain that momentum, falling 4-2 to the No.

On a day where a typically offensive ballpark played to the pitchers, the Northwestern State baseball team came out on the wrong end of a pitchers duel. The Demons could not solve UIW right-handers Hunter Hargett and Dave Johnson while the Cardinals took advantage of their offensive opportunities and completed a three-game Southland Conference sweep with a 5-0 win Sunday afternoon at Sullivan Field.

Throughout the spring season, Northwestern State has aimed to improve each day and each week. NSU has done just that, as evidenced by the annual spring game, the Delaney Bowl, as each unit made big plays during the game.

Just ahead of Small Business Week, the Natchitoches Area Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Northwestern State University Athletics to host Celebrate Local Day at NSU Baseball. Local businesses are invited to set up vendor booths with samples, handouts, experiences and more at the April 27 home baseball game vs. Houston Christian.

Adding size was on Rick Cabrera’s agenda for his 2024 Northwestern State men’s basketball signing class. The second-year Demon coach did just that Friday with the addition of Kilgore College’s Willie Williams.

In less than a month, Northwestern State athletics fans will be able to send their Demons into summer with a little boost. The NSU Athletic Department has set May 15 as its annual Giving Day as a way to assist its studentathletes’ success on and off the field.

In softball Select Division IV #7 seed St. Mary’s, was set to play #2 seed Catholic Pointe Coupe Friday night at 5 p.m. at Hornet Park in the Quarterfinals. A win puts the Tigers in the semi-finals against the winner of #3 seed Riverside Academy and #6 seed acred Heart.

Many times, midweek baseball game are about opportunities for players to show off what their behind-the-scenes work has produced. That was on display Tuesday night in Northwestern State’s 14-0, seven-inning run-rule win against visiting LSU-Alexandria at Brown-Stroud Field.
