Eligible education majors get ‘apple’ pins at NSU

Northwestern State University’s School of Education hosted an apple pinning ceremony for future educators who are now teacher candidates. Students eligible for the pinning are education majors who have completed 30 hours of coursework while maintaining a grade point average of 2.5 or better.

Times, requirements, fees and more set for phelebotomy training

An online phlebotomy technician training class will be offered by Northwestern State University’s Office of Electronic and Continuing Education in Alexandria beginning June 24 in Room 164 of NSU’s Cenla campus at 1410 Neel Kirby Blvd. The deadline to register is June 19.

BAYOU PON PON — A SLICE OF HEAVEN My brother Tom, our friend, Jerry Fowler, and I used to ride our bikes through the small town of Coushatta singing a happy song, “Saturday Night on Bayou Pon-Pon.” Not a real town, Bayou Pon-Pon in South Louisiana, is representative of many communities where, on Saturday night, families gathered at a seafood restaurant (really a bar-grill) to eat boiled shrimp, crab, oysters, crawfish, fried catfish, hush puppies, boiled corn, and potatoes, beer and Cokes. When the tables were cleared, a Cajun band began to play footstomping music, mostly of the two-step variety.
