Young- at -Heart meets

The monthly Young at Heart luncheon for seniors was on Nov. 1 at First United Methodist Church.The Back Porch Band entertained the gathering with a selection of gospel and traditional favorites, and David Clark displayed photographs from his “Feathers and Friends” wildlife collection.

Cane River DAR Chapter honors Veterans

Members of the Cane River Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution saluted veterans at the chapter’s third Veterans Recognition and Celebration Luncheon Oct. 29 at the Flora Community Center.The Color Guard from Natchitoches Central High School JROTC posted the colors.

Born in Natchitoches, her grandfather nine generations removed was Francois Derbanne. He was appointed paymaster and storekeeper by King Louis XV of France at Fort St John Baptiste. Barbara has honored her French Heritage by telling the story and keeping this legacy alive.
