Classic on the Cane Marching Contest held Nov. 1

The 36th Annual Classic on the Cane Marching Contest will be held Saturday, Nov. 1 at Turpin Stadium beginning at 9:30 a.m.Nineteen high school bands from around the region will compete. The Spirit of Northwestern Marching Band will perform at 4:15 p.m. The awards ceremony will begin at 4:30 p.m.

Lily Gladstone-Helmed Fancy Dance to be screened

Northwestern State University’s annual celebration of Native filmmaking continues with a free, public screening of Fancy Dance at the Student Union Ballroom at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10. Pizza and drinks will be provided.

Introspect’ senior art show opens Nov. 10 in Gallery 2

Work by Stephani Bradley of Natchitoches, a graduating senior at Northwestern State University, will be featured in her senior art exhibition titled “Introspect.”The show will be on display Nov. 10-14 in Gallery 2 in the new wing of the Creative and Performing Arts complex.

Louisiana lawmakers have been pushing to keep food assistance flowing to 17% of the state’s residents and to adjust next spring’s election timetable.The Louisiana House has signed off an urgent request to repurpose $150 million by Friday to cover SNAP benefits for nearly 800,000 residents.

Sheriff’s Office asking for help in locating alleged rapist

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff ’s Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a suspect wanted in connection with an alleged rape that occurred in Campti, according to Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright.Detectives and patrol deputies responded to the incident on Oct 20.
