Family and friends gathered at Knights of Columbus Hall to celebrate John Scott turning _Seventy in Style._ Some 140 folks including nine grandchildren traveled from Texas, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and various points across Natchitoches Parish to commemorate his life-well lived.

The Natchitoches Community Improvement Foundation (NCIF) will hold an election for new board members on Feb. 19.Those interested in running for a seat on the board need to obtain an application.The deadline to submit a completed application has been extended to Jan. 26.

News last week of two Northwestern men’s basketball program members being involved in a nationwide gambling investigation really stung.The two from Northwestern were not named in the indictment, but there were eight from Louisiana and more than 39 players nationwide named.

The “March for Peace and Justice”

There were numerous events in the city Monday to mark the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. The “March for Peace and Justice” above, began at the Ben Johnson Community Center at 10 a.m. Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity men led the march.

Medical Center hosts legislative luncheon and facility tour

Natchitoches Regional Medical Center (NRMC) hosted a legislative luncheon on Friday, welcoming state and regional leaders for a guided tour of the hospital’s facilities and an overview of ongoing initiatives focused on access, quality, and innovation in patient care.

LA 504 near 8 Mile Loop to close for one day, Tuesday

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) advises the public that on Tuesday, Jan. 20, LA 504 near its intersection with 8 Mile Loop in Natchitoches Parish will be closed.This closure is scheduled to be in place from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
