Black bear hunting lottery open

The Louisiana Black Bear Hunting Lottery runs through Aug. 28. The hunt, administered by LDWF, will be held in Louisiana Black Bear Management Areas 1, 2 and 4 from Dec. 6-Dec. 21 with 26 permits issued, an increase from the 11 permits issued last year.
All the local football coaches were on hand Saturday morning at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame to talk about the 2025 upcoming season. Shown seated, from left to right are Lakeview Head Coach Lawrence Seawood Jr., Natchitoches Central Head Coach Brad Laird, St. Mary’s Head Coach Kedrin Seastrunk and Northwestern State Head Coach Blaine McCorkle. The Natchitoches Leadership Through Athletics Committee sponsored the annual event.

Report day sets mood for Demons ahead of Tuesday’s opening practice

As the Northwestern State football team gathered together Monday for its “report day” portion of fall camp, there was something that seemed to be lacking a season ago: Familiarity.“We didn’t really know what to expect (last year),” redshirt junior linebacker Danny Sears said.

Northwestern State aims to make next step, as team reports to camp

During report day a year ago, the Northwestern State soccer team aimed to build on the late-season success from the 2023 season.Build on the late-season surge it did, finishing with 11 victories and finished one win shy of its second Southland Conference regular season championship in four seasons.

A new season brings new challenges, as the Northwestern State soccer team announced its 2025 schedule of 19 games, nine of which are being played at the Demon Soccer Complex.
