Heimerman named Co-Women’s Coach of the Year

After leading the Northwestern State women’s track and field team to another Southland Conference indoor/outdoor championship sweep, Mike Heimerman was named the All-Louisiana Co-Women’s Coach of the Year to highlight NSU on the All-Louisiana teams.

Jordan hired as Northwestern’s soccer associate head coach

Soccer head coach Ian Brophy added a veteran coach with head coaching experience with the hiring of Clifford Jordan as his associate head coach, Brophy announced Monday.Jordan is going to coach the goalkeepers but will help coaching in all aspects of the team.

Louisiana black bear hunting lottery to open July 28

The Louisiana Black Bear Hunting Lottery will open to state hunters July 28 and run through Aug. 28, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) announced. The hunt, administered by LDWF, will be held in Louisiana Black Bear Management Areas 1, 2 and 4 from Dec. 6-Dec.

Strengthened culture takes center stage for Demons at SLC opening drive

“It’s football season. When you come here, you know it’s time to go.”Those were the words secondyear Northwestern State head football coach Blaine McCorkle used to punctuate his opening statement at Monday’s Southland Conference Opening Drive event at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
There really is nothing better for a kid than to get outside, get some sun on their skin and some dirt under their feet. Last Saturday King Kids Youth events hosted free fishing on the downtown riverbank to encourage local youth to get outdoors and explore the wonder that is fishing. The youth events organization is a part of the King Kat catfish tournament trail.
