The LSU College of Agriculture will award the LSU University Medal posthumously to Lutrill Payne Sr. at its December commencement ceremony on Dec. 18 at 9 a.m. in the Maddox Fieldhouse.Payne, born in 1910, was a native of Union Parish.
In the 1930s, Mr. Payne graduated from Southern University, moved to Natchitoches, married a teacher named Pearl, and had started a family before entering military service for World War II. After returning, Mr. Payne sued for admission to LSU’s graduate program in agricultural education. A. P.
