45th Annual Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival July 19

NATCHITOCHES – The 45th Annual Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival will be held on Saturday July 19, 2025, in air-conditioned Prather Coliseum located at 220 South Jefferson Street at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches.

It was a packed house Saturday night during the Juneteenth concert on the riverbank to hear live, zydeco music by Chris Ardoin & the On Point Band. The days’ activities included celebrity basketball games, athletic events, dance showcases, concessions and more. Mayor Ronnie Williams Jr.

Numerous units turn out for Juneteenth Freedom Day Parade

Councilperson-at-Large Betty Sawyer Smith says a large crowd turned out to watch the Juneteenth Freedom Day Parade Saturday, Jun3 21. The parade began at 3 p.m. and rolled from Third Street to Texas, Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Amulet, North and Trudeau ending at the Ben Johnson Park..

Miss Louisiana

Miss Cane River, Gabrell McLeod, was crowned Miss Louisiana June 21 in Monroe. McLeod won the title of Miss Cane River at the Queens’ Pageant in Natchitoches in September of 2024. She is from Vicksburg, Miss., and is a student at University of Louisiana Monroe where she studies athletic training.

Council awards bids for South Williams water pipe replacement

The City Council awarded the bid for water pipe replacement on South Williams Avenue at the Council meeting Monday.The Council accepted the recommendation of the committee and awarded the bid to David Lawler LLC of Shreveport for $837,860.

The “stars” will be out this week in Natchitoches as we welcome the latest sports legends to be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.It’s hard to believe… but this is the 66th induction celebration… most of which have been in Natchitoches.
