UIW sweeps seasons series from Demons in three sets

The Northwestern State Demons’ volleyball team was swept by the University of Incarnate Word Cardinals Thursday night (25-11, 25-16 and 25-20) in Southland Conference competition at the McDermott Center.

In the opening set, the Demons (1-24, 0-11 SLC) appeared to be on the way to a highly competitive set as Samaya Wesson’s kill tied the match at 5-5. However, the Cardinals (12-11, 8-3 SLC) scored 20 of the next 26 points to take the first frame hitting .440 for the set.

In set two, NSU’s Jade Longlad recorded her 43rd ace of the season to retake the lead over UT-Rio Grande Valley’s Isabella Constantini. But the Cardinals continued to control the match as they scored four straight points after Longlad’s ace making it 10-3 and cruising to the set win.
