Council gets Opioid money for distribution

The Parish Council tended to a full agenda at its meeting Monday.

Among the highlights was Parish Treasurer Julie Lockhart’s announcement that she received the Parish’s Opioid Settlement of approximately $300,000. The District Attorney’s Office will get $20,000, District Court’s Adult Drug Court will get $175,000 and District Court’s Juvenile Drug Court will get $25,000. The remainder will be retained for other entities that qualify for those funds.

Owners of the company that makes Oxycontin agreed to pay up to $7 billion over 15 years to the Federal government to fight the opioid crisis that resulted in about 900,000 deaths. The allotments are distrusted through Parish Government.
