The University of New Orleans Privateers had 51 kills in a straight set win over the Northwestern State Demons’ volleyball team (25-11, 25-18 and 25-9) Saturday afternoon in Southland Conference action.
The Demons (1-19, 06 SLC) fell behind early in the first set as UNO (7-12, 2-4 SLC) had an 11-4 lead before NSU called a timeout. The Demons mounted a mini rally as they trimmed the hole to 149 before the Privateers ran away with the frame. Olivia Bush had three kills for the Demons in the opening set while Deja Benjamin added two.
In the second set, the Demons competed well early on. Junior Jade Longlad added to her conference lead with her 35th ace to pull the Demons within one, 5-4. NSU hung tough for much of the set as they trailed 18-15 following a block by Benjamin. However, the Privateers won seven of the next 10 points to clinch the set and take a 2-0 lead.
