Native son returns to library to sign copies of his poetry collection on Saturday

Natchitoches native Lawrence Irchirl Jr. will sign copies of his debut poetry collection, Poetic Peace: The Heart-felt Edition, at the Natchitoches Parish Library’s (NPL) Main Branch on Saturday, May 23, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Kindergarten kids, those through 6th can learn music at camp

Northwestern State University’s Department of Music will sponsor two sessions of summer music camp starting in June for children in kindergarten through grade six Music Around the World will be on June 22-26 from 9 a.m. until noon at the Performing Arts Complex. The camp is $150.

– Northwestern State University’s Office of Electronic Learning and Global Education will offer a Stitch & Quilt-Quilted Tote Workshop on June 9 and 11 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in Room 106 of South Hall on NSU’s Natchitoches campus.

Deputy graduates police academy, 16 weeks of intensive training

Natchitoches-Natchitoches Parish Sheriff Stuart Wright announces that Dep. Ashley Mays graduated from the Alexandria Regional Police Academy.Mays, along with fellow graduates, were honored during graduation ceremonies held Thursday, May 14 at the Alexandria Convention Center.

The new officers spent several grueling months at the Alexandria Regional Police Academy and will participate in the Natchitoches Police Department’s field training program to gain more experience.
