Northwestern State University is welcoming its largest entering freshman class in three years this fall, with 1,120 first-time freshmen choosing NSU for fall 2026.

Boil advisory for West Natchitoches, affected areas in effect

The City of Natchitoches has issued a boil advisory for West Natchitoches and all areas affected by the Monday, Sept. 7, water outage. The advisory will remain in effect until further notice.

Two new home starts among building permits in August

The City Planning and Zoning Department issued 40 building permits during August with a total application valuation of $792,936.The largest permit issued was to Donald D. Berry at 255 Peninsula for a new residential single family detached building valued at $400,000.

Former Demon baseball coach named to Sports Hall of Fame

During Jim Wells’ time as Northwestern State’s baseball coach, the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame was housed in Prather Coliseum – a long way physically from the structure at the end of Front Street that now houses the Pelican State’s athletic legends.

City crews responding to water outage

The City of Natchitoches is currently experiencing a water outage affecting portions of the west side of Natchitoches.City crews are actively working to identify and repair the issue and restore water service to affected residents and businesses as quickly as possible.

NSU closes due to city water issues

Northwestern State University’s main campus in Natchitoches  dismissed classes at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9 due to low water pressure, possible water outages and issues with City of Natchitoches water that could affect the campus.  The campus  remains closed for the rest of the day.
