Demons’ comeback falls short in semifinal loss to McNeese

Less than 24 hours after a scintillating finish to the Southland Conference Tournament quarterfinals, the Northwestern State men’s basketball team saw the roles reversed.Top-seeded and tournament host McNeese was the faster starter Tuesday night while the Demons played second-half puncher.

Demons carry confidence into Southland Conference Tournament

What a difference 12 months makes. A year ago, the Northwestern State men’s basketball team entered the Southland Conference Tournament on the heels of its longest losing streak in league play.

Lakeview Lady Gators win state championship

Lakeview Lady Gators avenge their loss last year in the playoffs against the Arcadia lady Hornets, as they were crowned 2025 LHSAA state champions in a 38-34 win. Action was tight throughout the game as they normally are when the two squads, who are less than 60 miles apart, play each other.
The Lakeview Lady Gators beat the Arcadia Hornets, 38-34, to win the Division IV non-select State Championship title Friday. It was the Lakeview girls’ basketball team’s first State Championship ever. Head coach is Dewaskie Fuller. The victory was a “sweet one” since the Lady Gators lost to Arcadia 60-29 in the tournament’s semifinal game last year.

As the Northwestern State baseball team opens the home portion of its 2025 Southland Conference schedule, it does so against a team that finds itself in a similar situation.The Demons host Incarnate Word at 6:30 p.m. Friday in Northwestern’s home Southland opener.
