4-Hers learn life skills at workshop

Natchitoches Parish 4-H recently organized a successful record book workshop at NSU E-Lab. The event aimed to equip 4th grade 4-H members with essential skills such as fishing knot tying and sewing on a button.

High school athletes to be feted

Senior-year athletes from Lakeview, Natchitoches Central and St. Mary’s High Schools -will be recognized for their outstanding athletic, academic and community achievements, Saturday May 18, at 10 a.m. in the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest History Museum. There is no cost to attend.
The Natchitoches Central High School Fishing Team is reeling in victories one tournament at a time. Lance Shirley and Hunter Rachal finished the year ranked fifth in the North Louisiana High School Bass Fishing League, and are now qualified to fish the league’s state championship on May18-19. The two anglers have also qualified to compete in the National Finals located on Lake Hartwell in Anderson, South Carolina in June.

Breaking a school record that had stood for more than 40 years and running one of the top times in the country in the 100-meter dash earned the Northwestern State a pair of Southland Conference track and field weekly awards, the league announced Wednesday.

Demons wrap up SLC road schedule at league-leading Lamar

When the calendar flipped from March to April, junior outfielder Balin Valentine had driven in five runs in the first 26 games of his Northwestern State baseball career.In a month known for producing showers, Valentine delivered a waterfall of RBIs, driving in 32 runs in the Demons’ 16 April games.

Any time an athlete accomplishes a feat that has not happened at Northwestern State since 1982, you know it is a major achievement.
