Wiley’s Weather tells of dust haze, rainfall totals and light frost

March was a very active weather- wise month for Natchitoches Parish with above normal precipitation for the month and a dust haze event.On March 19, during the afternoon hours, dust haze was observed being blown in on strong winds aloft from West Texas, New Mexico and Chihuahua.

It’s with great joy JT can say the voters got it right…at least when we speak of constitutional amendments.That’s not something JT utters very often.JT believes the defeat of these proposals was because voters felt like they were having these items pushed down their throats.

Rains close Sibley Lake

Sibley Lake is now closed until further notice. The boat ramps on Sibley Lake are closed due to high water levels. A notification will be posted when the ramps reopen.

The Natchitoches Police Department reminds the public about Natchitoches Code of Ordinances, Chapter 18 sections 3848. This section refers to junked or wrecked motor vehicle that are inoperable and left unattended on any portion of any occupied lot, neutral ground, street or sidewalk.

Board of Regents adopts formula that recognizes additional focus

During a recent meeting the Louisiana Board of Regents adopted a new funding formula that significantly increases the focus on completers in high-demand fields while also recognizing critical distinctions between the state’s two-year and four-year institutions.

‘Bloom and Brush’ is title of picnic for Dormon Nature Preserve fundraiser

Briarwood Caroline Dormon Nature Preserve annual spring picnic “Bloom & Brush,” the largest fundraiser of year, is Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.. Cost is $50 for adults; $10 for ages 13-18; free for those under 12.
