Cane River National Heritage Area (CRNHA) invites the public to experience the rich traditions of Creole culture during Crafting Creole Traditions, taking place Saturday, Feb. 14, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and Northwest Louisiana History Museum.

FAUNA Krewe of Waguns Mardi Gras Parade will roll Feb. 14

Laisses les “BONE” temps rouler! FAUNA’s Krewe of Waguns Children, Pet & Float Mardi Gras Parade takes place Saturday Feb. 14, in Downtown Natchitoches.Registration is at 2 p.m. at Bank of Montgomery, 814 Washington St; line up at 2:45 p.m. with parade rolling at 3 p.m.

Symphony Concert is Tuesday at Northwestern

The Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Orchestra will present a concert titled ╥ Music for Chamber Orchestras at 7:30 p.m. in Magale Recital Hall Feb. 10. Tickets are $16.50 each and can be purchased online at https://nnssla.org/. There is an added charge for buying tickets online.

Inaugural Krewe of The 9 parade is set for Feb. 21

Touting the spirit of Mardi Gras in Natchitoches Parish and beyond, Natchitoches’ newest Mardi Gras krewe, Krewe of The 9 will host its inaugural Mardi Gras parade on Saturday, Feb. 21, through the downtown and residential historic district of the city.

Krewe of Dionysos hosts Grand Bal XXVIII

The Krewe of Dionysos hosted its Grand Bal XXVIII in the Natchitoches Events Center on Jan. 31 under the thrilling theme “Krewe of Dionysos Around the World.” Brett Garfinkel served as the Grand event’s emcee and “Louisiana Red” was the band for the evening.

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies

Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, along with multiple units from Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #5 with mutual aid assistance from Natchitoches Parish Fire Protection District #1 were dispatched to a structure fire in the 300 block of Main Street in Natchez Wednesday, Jan.

Between 1910- 1970, more than 6 million Black people moved from the South northward to better opportunities.These families were hoping to escape racial violence and Jim Crow laws to find better jobs and schools.The movement had its roots in Reconstruction, the period following the Civil War.
